According to the Ethereum Foundation, the latest and official public testnet Medalla of Ethereum 2.0 was launched on Tuesday this week. Medalla is the final testnet ahead of the Ethereum 2.0 network launch, first expected by the end of the year.
Five clients reportedly joined the test: Prysm, Lodestar, Teku, Nimbus and Lighthouse. The main condition for the launch of Medalla was that the validators contributed a sufficient amount of test ETH. Medalla will allow the final Ethereum 2.0 test to be carried out as close to reality as possible.
According to the developers, the launch of Medalla is a huge achievement, the result of yearslong hard work by countless engineers, researchers and community members. The founder of the project, Vitalik BUTERIN, calls for the launch of the mainnet in November this year, if there are no difficulties during testing.
