Bitcoin Atom Planned to Release This Month
CryptoBit News Today2 min read
Bitcoin Atom, a project promising to bring interoperability and privacy to Bitcoin wallets and exchanges, announced a planned release this month. ## Key Features
It will secure Bitcoin's decentralization, imitate aspects of Bitcoin SV (Satoshi's Vision), and permit interoperability across Bitcoin platforms.
The developers stated, "Bitcoin Atom aims to enhance Bitcoin's functionality, interoperability, and security while staying true to Bitcoin's original goals." They outlined several key features:
A two-way pegged sidechain to Bitcoin Cash. Users can move BCA to and from Bitcoin Cash. Greater private transactions over Bitcoin Cash's current capabilities, using a protocol similar to ZCash's zk-SNARK. Interoperability across Bitcoin wallets, including Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin, via atomic swaps. A simplified payment verification wallet to reduce the amount of data needed to verify Bitcoin transactions. ## Details Remain Scant
The project's whitepaper provides few specifics, but the developers suggested that Bitcoin Atom will use a sidechain technology to enable atomic swaps and privacy features.
The developers said they chose atomic swaps over pegged sidechains to avoid the security risks of federated systems. Atomic swaps enable trustless, peer-to-peer trading between Bitcoin platforms.
Bitcoin Atom will also include an enhanced privacy protocol, likely similar to zk-SNARK, which shields transaction amounts and sender and receiver information. ## Interoperability and Security
The developers stated that Bitcoin Atom will enable interoperability across Bitcoin wallets and exchanges. This would allow users to seamlessly send and receive transactions across Bitcoin platforms, as well as Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin, and Litecoin.
The project aims to enhance Bitcoin Cash's security. The developers told us, "Bitcoin Atom leverages best-in-class cryptography for enhanced privacy, while maintaining the decentralized nature of Bitcoin." ## Impact on Bitcoin and Altcoins
Bitcoin Atom's launch this month brings a new option for Bitcoin users seeking privacy and interoperability. As the first major Bitcoin project to emphasize these features, it could attract users and developers away from pure Bitcoin.
The developers expressed confidence, saying "Bitcoin Atom represents the future of Bitcoin." However, they acknowledged that the project is still in alpha and not yet secure for mainstream usage.
Bitcoin Atom joins a small group of altcoins attempting to solve Bitcoin's privacy and interoperability issues, including Komodo and PIVX. The developers said they have no connection to other projects attempting similar goals. ## Current status
As of this writing, Bitcoin Atom's release date has not yet been disclosed. The developers clearly stated, "The Bitcoin Atom launch is imminent and will be announced soon." However, they gave no date. The developers cautioned users to be wary of scams and fake airdrops, saying "only transactions from our official website and San Francisco developers are safe."
