New Fidelity Investments Service, or How Trillions Will Come to the Crypto Market

TechnologyBit News Today2 min read

Fidelity Investments, one of the largest asset managers in the country, launched a new platform for cryptocurrency trading Monday, a move that could attract large quantities of cash to the market.

The new platform, called Fidelity Digital Assets, was announced at the MIT Business School, where Fidelity chairman Abraxas was a guest speaker. It will initially serve the firm's existing hedge fund clients, offering execution and custody services for a handful of digital assets. The company plans to add more services down the line.

This is the first time a major institutions have dipped their toes into this volatile market. Over more than two months, the value of bitcoin has dropped by more than half, and other top altcoins have been similarly volatile. But younger investors are pouring their money into the market, and institutions have been waiting for the right moment to take the plunge. ## Why Institutions Matter

Investments from Wall Street is expected to be a big game changer for crypto. If more banks and financial firms offer services for buying and trading digital assets, it will be easier for other big investors to get into the market. This could lead to a huge inflow of capital.

Large investments from institutional traders will be a significant advantage for the market. They typically use sophisticated trading strategies, based on in-depth research and analysis. When they start buying a cryptocurrency, it can lead to a price surge.

However, the crypto market is quite different from the forex or stock markets. Until recently, it's been highly volatile and decentralized, with trading happening on several exchanges. This makes it a risky option for investors, but also has drawn in a lot of speculators and traders. Now that Fidelity has entered the market, it may help to stabilize prices and attract more sober investors. ## What's Next?

Fidelity's new service is just the first from a major financial institution to launch for the crypto market. Reuters reported earlier this month that Goldman Sachs is planning to launch a crypto trading desk. And the New York Times reported in August that Citigroup and Wall Street are taking more seriously the risk of being left behind in the market.

With the launch of Fidelity's platform, we can expect to see other big banks and financial firms follow suit. This could lead to even more institutional investments in the cryptocurrency market, which could help to stabilize prices and bring in more mainstream investors. However, it's still early days for crypto, and there are many unknowns about how the market will evolve in the coming months and years.
