Interpol Fight Against Malware Proves Successful

Cooperation between Interpol and the world leader in cyber security protection Trend Micro, revealed more than 20,000 infected routers. The work to detect the crypto-jacking virus lasted for five months and lead to the effective results.

Crypto-jacking or mining malware became popular among cybercriminals and became the most detected threat in the first half of 2019. According to experts, the criminals used the vulnerability in Micro Tik routers. Trend Micro explains that many users are not even aware that they are infected. As a result of joint efforts, the number of infected devices were reduced by 78% in November.

According to Interpol, the security operation was carried out in Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The joint efforts of specialists were aimed at identifying infected routers, preventing victims and installing improvements that no longer allowed cybercriminals to control the devices.
